The CARS section is often viewed as the most difficult section of the MCAT. Next Step’s Dr. Anthony LaFond conducted this strategy session to help those preparing for the MCAT to have a better understanding of this section.
Dr. LaFond believes that if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. He discussed how to build a solid foundation and build on that knowledge and understanding. Since the CARS section requires no outside knowledge, unlike the other sections of the MCAT, it necessitates a better understanding of how the passages and questions relate.
He went over how to properly highlight passages so that you are getting the most important and relevant information from each passage. Due to time constraints, test takers will not have the ability to memorize everything; this is why highlighting key points and numbers is so important.
Dr. LaFond went through two practice passages with attendees. He read the passages out loud, highlighting important pieces of information and explaining why these highlighted words and phrases matter. Once the passage is completed, he takes attendees through the questions, showing them how to look back at the passage and what to highlight to correctly answer what is asked.
The CARS section of the MCAT is more difficult to study for as it is less about memorizing facts and more about creating a strategy. Dr. LaFond showed attendees some effective strategies for the CARS section. Check out the recording below.
